State Fair

We made our annual trip to the Fair in October.  We look forward to it every year.  This year we picked the worst weather day to go.  It was cold and rainy.  Really rainy.  But, we pushed through and still had a lot of fun.

Caleb is slightly obsessed with Big Tex.  We were so sad to hear about Big Tex burning last year.  Caleb was excited to see the new Big Tex.  I was a little disappointed with him.  His boots are ginormous and make his legs look stumpy.

He looks sad in this pic but he wasn't.  Just not looking at the camera.

I can't believe how tall he's getting!

Out of all the yummy Fair food he gets so excited over pizza!

Love this one!

Now that's some Fair food...tornado tators!  Mmmmmm......

There was a little show in the Food and Fiber pavillion that the boys got to be a part of.  It was very slapstick but fun.  I was impressed that Caleb actually participated.  He helped this guy juggle.

Ethan helped rope a cow.  They were so excited to help with the show!

We enjoyed some free ice cream while watching the beginning of the show.

Haha, I love this pic!

This is Mondo's dream car...no, really.  He is DYING for one of these vans!  It would be awesome to have for long road trips but not so practical for every day use.
We went into a building that we've never been in.  I didn't realize that it even had stuff in it.  We were so glad we did because it was full of Big Tex stuff!

His belt buckle.

There was an area in this building to write a note to Big Tex.  Ethan drew a picture of Big Tex and wrote "You are better than your old self."  Too Cute!

Caleb drew Big Tex and us.  (He had trouble writing his name because the pen was jacked up.)

This area was interesting.  It was like a little shrine to the old Big Tex.

Ethan and me inside the food court.  We took a reprieve from the rain and ate inside.

Caleb approves...of more pizza!

Ethan's Field Trip

A few weeks ago Ethan had a field trip to Green Meadows petting zoo at Joe Pool lake.  I was suprised that Ethan had a field trip so early in the year.  We had a great time even though the forecast called for a day full of rain.  It only rained on us a couple of times and of course the kids thought it was fun.

Going on a hay ride.

Ethan and Mommy right before a downpour of rain.

We saw a little show where the farmer talked about all of the different animals.  Of course the kids didn't really listen since it was raining on us.

Checking out some baby pigs.

Milking a cow.  I'm pretty sure he was the only one who asked for gloves.  Of course they didn't have any.  I had to talk him into doing it without them.  He is SO his father's kid.  ;-)

His buddy Brock.

He also didn't enjoy some of the stinky areas.  He would never survive on a farm!

They all enjoyed petting the horses.

They tried to pet chickens but that was a lost cause.  Those poor chickens get chased by kids daily...

We took a quick break for lunch.
His 3rd grade class.  You can't tell but it was actually raining in this pic.

Before we left the kids were able to pick out a pumpkin to take home.  I took one for Caleb too.  :-)  This was one of my favorite field trips!  Nothing like the nightmare of the 1st grade trip when I had to keep up with a group of kids at the museum.  Yikes!

QuinceaƱera in San Antonio

We went to San Antonio a few weekends ago for a quinceanera for one of Mondo's cousins.  It's like what the gringos call a sweet 16 party except this one is for when they turn 15.  This was the second one we've been to.  The boys enjoy getting to dance all night.  We also used it as another mini vacay and did a little sight seeing...even though we've been to San Antonio a million times.  ;-)

We picked the kids up early from school on Friday and hit the road.

We took a few touristy pics on the Riverwalk.

Caleb kept giving us a heart attack by getting too close to the water.  He can swim but that water is disgusting!  He was obsessed with the ducks...and he came milimeters from falling in at one point.

This was outside of a restaurant on the Riverwalk.  We didn't eat there but the boys thought the long horn was cool.

We went into Ripley's Believe it or Not and the Palace of Wax but didn't pay to go fully inside.  We just browsed around the entry way.

I think this wax figure is a wrestler?

We were going to go inside the Alamo but the line was super long.  I guess it usually is on a Saturday afternoon.  And the boys were getting hot so we walked around outside then went to the gift shop.

Papa, Caleb would like for you to make him some wooden swords like these.  :-)

Mondo giving a little history lesson with the mini figures.

Watch out!  They're loading the cannon!

This was inside River Center Mall.  I turned around and he was doing this!  ;-)

We did a little shopping and Caleb kept himself highly entertained by talking to all of his reflections in the mirror.  It was pretty funny!

The night of the party.  Almost dancing time!

There were several special dances before the dance floor was open to everyone.

That's Mondo's grandmother (his Dad's mom) giving her the special doll.

Caleb broke it down out there!  He was a sweaty mess!

The cake.  I'm not sure if they even cut it!  We left around 11pm and no one had touched it yet...well, except for a few kid's grubby fingers.  ;-)

It was like a kid dance party at the beginning.

Caleb said he was ready to do some "Mexican dancing".  I was his dance partner.  ;-)

There were little candy bags that someone got into after we left.  ;-)
